Rapper 50 Cent Pens Self-Help Book — What the …?

50 centIf putting their names on perfumes, clothing lines, movies, and tv shows wasn’t enough, rapper 50 Cent has just published his first self-help book, titled “The 50th Law”.

Before you laugh or scoff, check out how this all came about.

Fitty (as he’s more commonly known) approached Robert Greene, author of “The 48 Laws of Power” and suggested a collaboration after he became a huge fan of this how-to-succeed guru.

This Queens rapper said that his book is “an opportunity to inspire hope,” and aims to teach people to live without fear.

But I want to know what you guys think about this. Is this another marketing ploy to make more money or is he genuinely trying to reach out and help people? Drop a comment below to share your honest opinion on this matter.

Remember, this guy’s been shot 9 times and is still alive. So if anyone knows a thing or two about fear and hope, it’s probably him.

50 Cent pimps his new self-help book, ‘The 50th Law’ at Barnes & Noble

By Erica Pearson from NYDailyNews.com

Hundreds lined up at a midtown Barnes & Noble bookstore to meet Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, there promoting “The 50th Law,” a self-help book he wrote with Robert Greene.

“It’s an opportunity to inspire hope,” said the Queens rapper about his book, which aims to teach people how to live without fear.

Fitty said he became a fan of the how-to-succeed guru after reading Greene’s tomes — including “The 48 Laws of Power,” and “The Art of Seduction” — and approached him several years ago to suggest a collaboration.

“Obviously, I’ve been using his ‘Art of Seduction’ tactics more than he does,” he joked.

Fitty dropped his tough-guy image for the afternoon, smiling, shaking hands and chatting with everyone.

“He held my hand the whole time,” said Valerie Haskins, 56, from Bedford-Stuyvesant. “I just felt the vibes. He’s so nice and sweet.”

I have read Robert Greene’s books. They are always interesting and very well researched. I think the fact that Robert G. [I assume he has a rap name now! :) ] was willing to work with him says a lot.

It also shows us how complex 50 cent actually is. He was on CNBC a few weeks ago talking about the millions he made off of VitaminWater.

He seems like a nice guy. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he’s doing it ‘for the kids’.

It’s hard to make an opinion without reading the book first. I’ll buy it and let you know what I think.

As much as I think 50 Cent’s overall character/image isn’t corrupt and disgusting, he has been through hell and still can smile. I believe everyone deserves a second chance, I shouldn’t judge, and that powerful positive things can come from anyone. One of these days, I should take a look at what he’s saying. After all, he is successful and that can’t be denied.

This is a great idea as he’s going to reach a huge group of people who normally doesn’t read this kind of books.

I can’ t wait for the day Kanye West will come out with his own self help book on how to behave properly in every circumstance!
I don’ listen to rap music, so I barely know 50 Cent, but I’ ve read about his VitaminWater deal. I think that he showed good marketing skills in that instance, maybe his book will have a few ideas worth reading.

I believe this is a wonderful thing. The more good information we can get out there the better. I am sure he has many powerful things to say that can add quality and purpose to a child’s life. Many children don’t have good role models today. Even though he may look rough around the edges, I am sure he’s a hell of a guy when you get to know him.

I’ve been a fan of “hip-hop” since it was “rap.” Fifty has never been my favorite MC, lyrically–but his voice is good and his cadence and timing are excellent.

Anyways, don’t let the thug bravado fool you, his self-admitted favorite law of power tactic is:

Law 21 Play a Sucker to Catch a Sucker. Seem Dumber than your Mark

    He’s no dummy…

Usually it´s good to inspier hope. But… here are a few laws of the book “the 48 laws of power” — as I understood, fiddy is only adding 2 new laws to greenes book, right?

#2 Never put too much trust in your friends — learn how to use your enemys
#5 So much depends on reputation — guard it with your life
#6 get others to do the work for you, but always take the credit
#8 make other people come to you, use bait if necessary
#11 learn to make people dependent of you
#12 use selective honesty and generosity to disarm your victim
#14 pose as friend, work as spy
    #15 crush your enemy totally
    #24 play the perfect courtier
#27 play on peoples need to believe to create a cultlike following
    #33 discover each man´s thumbscrew
#42 strike the shepherd and the sheep will scatter

…you can get all laws here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNALeYJhnhA

I think Fifty cents has a great heart for people and he would like to help as much people as he possible can not by way of hand out but most importantly to help them become more independent so that they can share their success stories with others and get them started as well. Like a dominoe effect.
