5 Movies That Will Change Your Life

dead poets societyI’ve just come back from watching Star Trek — again. Yeap, I saw it twice and am going to go watch it again for the third time. Yes really, it is that good. But more than just the amazing story, I love how so much of what they show and talk about in the movie (multiple universes, the concept of time etc) is actually true.

Remember last week when Stephen Simon wrote the article Can  a Movie Change your Life? Anyway , I’ve decided to compile movies that I feel changed my life (and hopefully many others as well), movies that got me thinking and re-evaluating life.

One might think of movies as just a way to relax and zone out unless it’s a ‘serious’ movie, but you’ll be surprised! Some of the biggest blockbusters have had the deepest meaning. I’m not sure if the directors, writers and producers do this consciously or have sub-consciously channeled information from higher forces so they can reach a larger audience and help raise the collective planetary vibration. So in no particular order, here are my movie picks:

The Matrix

This movie was a revolution! I’m not sure if the Wachowski brothers know just how close to the truth The Matrix actually is. Right about now some of you might be thinking, “How is this movie a representation of reality or spirituality or life changing in any way?” Oh where do I begin??

In the movie Morpheus offers Neo (the Hero) a red pill or a blue pill. Take the blue pill and Neo will go back to his ordinary life, take the Red one and Neo will go down the rabbit hole. The path will not be easy, but at least he will be living the truth. This is the case for spiritual journeys too. You need to ‘wake up’. But being awake doesn’t necessary always mean that it will be easy and you will reach nirvana in a minute and everything will be ok.

When you do ‘wake up’, you realize that the world you were living in was fake or just a representation of what we perceive to be ‘real’. Sound familiar? Then there is the spoon bending scene (video above), the Oracle and how she can tell you your future but if you change yourself, then you change your future, etc, etc. Anyway, to go through the movie scene by scene is going to take forever, I must say though the last bit when Neo finally realizes what the world truly is (I won’t say too much incase you haven’t seen it and want to watch it) is priceless. Go watch the movie or rewatch it and see if how it can change your reality!

Star Trek

Ah Star Trek.. I thought it would be another movie full of Hollywood special effects (it was), hurried ending and some sex thrown in for good measure. Instead I got a pretty accurate description of how the universe splits, time travel and multiple dimensions. Brilliant!

Seriously if there is one movie you need to watch this year, this should be it!

Dead Poets Society

Carpe Diem — Seize the day. How many of you remember that? I remember quoting that endlessly even though at that age I had yet to fully grasp it’s meaning. But still a part of me changed and it remained as an integral part of my life motto.

Go forth and live life!

Waking Life

I had to watch this docu-movie a few times before I finally understood it. A great movie to make you think! Think! Think! About reality, free will, our relationships with others, and the meaning of life. Although the way it is presented (Digitally Enchanced Rotoscope) might be annoying to some, art to others, it is something worth watching! I think you might be able to watch the full version on You Tube.

Sliding Doors

YouTube Preview Image

Have you ever had those moment where you thought, “I wonder what would happen if only I had done this instead of that?” Well according to Gerald O’ Donnell, Neale Donald Walsch and Burt Goldman the Universe does split (Vishen actually talks about this in his article 5 Levels of Manifesting). So right now, there is one of you that is living a different life while you are living this one. Sliding doors actually takes you on a journey of one girl where you can see what happens in both her lives.

So these are my picks. Do leave your comments on which movies changed your lives!

“What Dreams May Come” had a profound effect on me. Made me cry profusely :-) And as I’ve read more and more I realise how much it was based on spiritual writings.

Hi everyone! So many movies changed my life, so I’m just gonna give you a few examples here! First, The Secret, that considerably opened my eyes, or reopened my eyes on things I had lernt before, but had not really crystallized in my life up until then! Besides, I felt such a connection with the production team, only this was a magical experience in itself, which led me to a very profound relationship with Rhonda Byrne’s daughter, Skye! An amazing person!!! So there goes for The Secret, on to some other ones now!

Along the same lines, What The Bleep was also a great eye-opener! I also bought the DVD of The Living Matrix and yes, I can attest to the fact that it is a great movie, probably the best one of the kind since The Secret, and this is not to say the least! Then Indigo Evolution also made it for me, beautiful, inspiring and enlightening!

But now, if I go more into the “factional” type, well certainly The Last Mimzy would figure first as of now!!! Then come movies like The Celestine Prophecy, What Dreams May Come with Stephen Simon in the direction and creation, the whole Star Wars saga, Contact, ET, and certainly many more, but I will stop here!!! LOL

    Have an amazing day, y’all!

BRAZIL is another great movie. I found myself nodding my head in agreement and also shaking it at the reality of what happens when government is allowed too much power. Just as 1984 by George Orwell shows that no matter what, your dreams and individuality can never truly be taken away.

Vanilla Sky had quite an effect on me. Another good one was the Sixth Sense. Celestine Prophesy, although the book was better than the movie. Haven’t seen the new Star Trek, but tomorrow is movie night for me, and I will recommend it to my wife. She planned on Angels and Demons, which also looks to be interesting.

There have been quite a few movies that have changed the way I think or view things, here are some of them: What the Bleep, Down the Rabbit Hole, The Lake House, The Secret, What About Me — One Giant Leap. The Matrix, however, is still my favourite.

I’m surprised that no one has yet mentioned, “The Five People You Meet In Heaven.” when you see it you will know what I mean.….….…

What brilliant suggestions! I haven’t seen The Living Matrix or Indigo Evolution. On my ‘must-watch’ list now!

–The Curious Case of Benjamin Button–
Should have been the 1st on the list yet it is not on the list at all. It’s about what is TRULY important in life, not just about an old man/baby returning to his birth/death. Not at all. It is quite remarkable to say the least.

I also believe that this is the movie wehere Brad Pitt has done his best work. It surprised me what a fine actor he truly is. MUST SEE. May change your life! I am serious.

P.S. Bring tissues. Oh, and the movie doesn’t seem like almost 3 hours in length. See for yourself.

I found “Ground Hog day” to be an early mind opening movie, although, I must confess, it was not till the 4th or 5th time of “studying” it that I began to get it. Watched it 8 times over the years and will again.
I agree Sliding doors, Run Lola…, Lake House were great mind openers for me … as well as the top 5 mentioned. They were put out as “entertainment” movies vs the explicitly “educational” promotion of“Secret and Rabbit hole — I have both on DVD… the full 10 hours + of Rabbit hole
I am now curious to watch “The 5 People You meet in Heaven”.
    Thanks for the other suggestions.
Final comment … Vanilla Sky … hmmm ..ok, maybe, but not a patch on the original, in Spanish, with Penelope Cruz in it as well — this may have been the movie that got her “discovered” in H-Wood. anyway, I can’t remember the Spanish title but it translates to “Open your eyes!”. Much more profound than Vanilla Sky — what is that suggesting? a mystery trip to a Wendy’s parlour?

My all-time favourite movie was and is Shawshank Redemption. This movie had everything on a plate, racism, violence,
manipulation, social and penal injustice, police corruption, civil service corruption, and the eventual triumph over evil.

The movie I have seen that had a profound impact on me, making me think a lot more too, is “Passion of the Christ” I hope I have the title correct. What Jesus endured to save us was remarkable, way above what any mortal man could handle. Made me STOP and change direction…

    what a great conversation piece.
I’ve seen every movie listed and I agree whole heartedly.
Other movies you might want to consider as well are “What Dreams May Come” and a surprising experience I had yesterday when I randomly caught a movie I never heard of before entitled “Idiocracy”. Although it is set up in a comedy format this crazy story pretty much sums up where we are headed if we don’t realize what is important. Thanks Stanlee for the newsletter. Just like you it is great.

I’ve yet to see some of the movies people have mentioned. The one’s that rocked for me were ‘What Dreams May Come’, ‘the Matrix’, ‘1984’, ‘Educating Rita’ and I am surprised no one mentioned ‘As Good As it Gets’, that really struck home with me, ‘cos while we’re off ‘finding ourselves’ our life can literally be passing us by, we still need to remember above all else being right here right now, is the best self help we can ever give ourselves — Many blessings, with love and light :-) )

I love the choice of movies, although I have yet to see two of them (I have yet to See Star Trek, and it is the first time I have even heard of Sliding Doors). Movies are a really great way to connect with some truths.

One movie I would heartily recommend for that is “Revolver”, even if it does not look very significant at first glance, and to explain how would be to give huge spoilers.

    And please don’t forget:

    2001: A Space Odyssey
    2010
    Sphere
    K-Pax
    Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
    Till Human Voices Wake Us
    House of Cards
    La vita è bella
    The Secret Life Of Words
    Great Expectations
    House of Flaying Daggers
    Girl with a Pearl Earring
    Gerry

    Watch, learn and enjoy!

For me, the most obvious life changing movie is “The Black Stallion”. I had always dreamed of having “a” horse as a child but the movie planted a seed. I ‘manifested’ a beautiful Arabian before most of us even had much knowledge about these things, waaaay back in 1991; I had seen the movie in 1980 so that’s how long it took for him to arrive in my life…and that’s a great story in itself.
Looking back, even before that, over the years I had manifested other things I really wanted but hadn’t the slightest clue what I was doing. I kind of wrote it all off to some very good “luck”. Of course this was many, MANY years before “The Secret”.
Other movies that were actually, REALLY “life changing”? After this experience, nope (as much as I have many favorites that were deeply thought provoking and I enjoyed very much) I can’t say there are.
I still have my beautiful Arabian horse. Yes, my life was VERY changed by that movie.

I would throw in “What the Bleep do We Know.” “The Peaceful Warrior” and “The Secret” in the mix.

    Matrix is a good choice.
I would add only one movie — Jonathan Livinstone Seagull.
