Welcome back! We’re down to the last post in our 19-part FinerMinds Series on Becoming Just Awesome. I hope you’ve enjoyed the journey. To finish the series we’re going to end on a high note: the importance of celebration – from your daughter losing her first tooth to getting the promotion you’ve had your eye on for over a year. It’s time to party!
I raise the importance of celebration, because people simply don’t do it enough. Even if you’re crazy busy with work or on an intense path of personal discovery, you still need to carve out the time to unwind, smile and do something (anything!) to mark what you’ve achieved, what you’re grateful for or a special event.
Here’s why you need to celebrate:
1. Celebration provides a time for reflection. Enjoying a celebratory ‘time out’ gives you a chance to pause and look back at your accomplishments and observe the road you traveled to get there. You can actually learn through this process.
2. Celebration is fun and relaxing. Quite simply, we don’t have enough fun these days. It’s always go-go-go and this isn’t good for the mind, body and spirit. Taking a much deserved celebratory break is a fabulous way to rejuvenate. It’s actually good for you!
3. Celebration allows you to get together with the ones you love. Celebrating on your own is good, but celebrating with your friends and family is even better. The next time you have something to celebrate gather your loved ones around you to help you toast life and the power of your closest relationships.
Remember, you can celebrate absolutely anything. If it’s important to you, go for it. Have a party if you decide to quit smoking. Treat you and your partner to a nice dinner if you both handled an argument really well. You can even celebrate failures. Yes, that’s right. Celebrate what you learned and how you’re going to get back up and try again. It’s all about making the time to ritually mark the journey of life with positive, special moments.
To close this series, I’m going to share with you a lighthearted video called “Celebrate Living” that covers some of the key messages we’ve worked with throughout the series. Enjoy!
