So how well do you know your brain? Even though we rely on our brains for EVERYTHING, 90% (if not more) of people are oblivious to what’s going up in their noggin’.
But here’s the best part. Your brain is hardwired to help you in every endeavor you choose. All you need to do is “activate” it.
For a long time now, people have known about the brain’s ability to operate at different wavelengths and frequencies. But not everyone knows what each form of brainwave does. So here’s a crash course on the key brainwaves and how they can help you speed up your personal growth, feel more relaxed, and live a happier life.
Editor’s Note: Lee Benson is a self-development leader, currently living in Paris, France. He is the creator of ground-breaking, brain-strengthening products, such as Brain Bullet, and the founder of the original Elite Inner Circle.

During 2005, Lee Benson worked with brainwave pioneer Michael Kelley, to help develop the Brain Evolution System — a six-level “brainwave entrainment” program designed to strengthen the mind.
Lee is currently travelling the globe, working to spread the word regarding the BrainEv technology — and the powerful results it can bring.

How Your Brain Works
The electrical activity emanating from the brain creates frequencies called brainwaves.
Brainwave frequencies are measured in Hertz (Hz), meaning cycles per second. The more cycles per second, the greater the Hertz value.
There are four categories of brainwaves ranging from the most activity to the least activity. These are: BETA, ALPHA, THETA and DELTA.
Each image below depicts a one second snapshot of human brainwave activity, as detected by an electroencephalogram (EEG). As you’ll notice, greater values indicate more brainwave activity within the one second time-frame.
Beta Brainwaves
BETA BRAINWAVES are characteristic of an engaged mind, which is highly alert and well focused.
Beta activity is quick-connect, fast activity and tends to dominate the normal waking state of consciousness when-attention is directed towards the outside world.
Typically detected in the frontal lobes (where decisions are managed), Beta is usually seen on both sides of the brain in geometric distribution. It may be absent or reduced in areas of brain damage. It is generally regarded as a normal rhythm and tends to be the dominant rhythm in those who are alert, anxious or have their eyes open.

Beta brainwaves are engaged when the brain is aroused or processing activities, such as:
- involved conversations with others that command your full attention
- complex problem solving and assessment of situations
- public speaking, lectures or teaching information
Alpha Brainwaves
ALPHA BRAINWAVES are slower than beta and can represent a relaxed awareness in the mind.
This rhythm is seen when the brain sets itself to rest or reflect. Alpha rates are increased by closing the eyes and relaxing, yet are offset by opening one’s eyes or any concentrated effort.
Alpha is usually best detected in the frontal regions of the head, on each side of the brain. Alpha is the major rhythm seen in normal relaxed adults and is typically regarded as the common relaxation mode beyond the age of 13.

Alpha brainwaves move towards deep relaxation, imagination and intuitive thinking, as they accompany:
- a relaxed mind after complex thinking into a mode of relaxation
- meditation and setting the mind’s attention to itself, away from outside distractions
- recovery from stressful thoughts and emotional despair
Theta Brainwaves
THETA BRAINWAVES can indicate drowsiness, daydreaming, the first stage of sleep or ‘indirect’ imagination/thinking.
Theta activity is not often seen in awake adults (unless engaged in a meditative practice), but is perfectly normal in alert children up to 13 years and in most sleep.
A Theta state can be regarded as a gateway to hypnagogic states that lay between being awake and falling asleep. Often Theta entrainment can promote vivid flashes of mental imagery as one becomes receptive to brain/mind information beyond one’s typical conscious awareness. Theta has also been identified as a part of learning, memory and reductions in stress.

Theta brainwaves are often related to:
- accessing subconscious information that eludes the conscious mind
- hynagogic states like ‘daydreaming’
- reductions in body rhythms, such as: heart rate and breathing
Delta Brainwaves
DELTA BRAINWAVES can reveal deep sleep or slow-wave ‘background’ thinking.
Much like bass sound, Delta tends to be the highest in amplitude and the slowest waves. Delta is often associated with deep sleep. Certain frequencies, in the delta range, have been shown to trigger the body’s healing and growth mechanisms.
Interestingly, Delta is the dominant rhythm in infants up to one year, as well as stages 3 and 4 of dreamless sleep.

Delta brainwaves are often related to and indicate:
- the lowest brain frequencies, possibly indicating subconscious thoughts and information
- deep and refreshing sleep that allows the body and brain to rest and repair.
- extremely deep meditation and hyper-relaxed mind states
…
It is important to note that the brain does not operate on one frequency range at any given time.
All four rates occur at once, yet at varying amplitudes. A good analogy would be to relate each brainwave state to a sting on a violin. All four strings make notes, yet one or more strings can dominate the overall sound at a greater volume.

Is this one similar to Holosync? I’ve been looking for an alternative to Holosync. So any information is appreciated.
Terminal fail. You forgot gamma brainwave state, the most useful of the five main brainwave states. This brainwave state is associated with deep meditation in monks, emergency reactions, and moments of intense creativity. Also worth mentioning is the mu rhythm, associated with mirror neuron activation, hypnosis, empathy, and learning by observation.

Ooh — already posted this but not sure if it worked…
Sai — a quick summary — yes this is similar to Holosync, and Holosync is an awesome product — but very expensive.
Try researching “isochronic tones” — they are a new technology and have been called “binaural beats on steroids”.…(!!)
Click on my link to read my review — you’ll see this is a cheaper, faster-working and more effective technology, so if Holosync is out of your price-range, I’d highly recommend Isochronic Tones!
It’s always good to have a neat summary. Thanks for this and the audio. What’s that about Gamma waves?
Great information. I work at home alone all day as a self-employed designer. Staying focused is a problem sometimes… Is there sound technology to help with staying focused and on-task?
@ Leila
Hey! A gamma wave is a pattern of brain waves, associated with perception and consciousness. Gamma waves are produced when masses of neurons emit electrical signals at the rate of around 40 times a second (40 hertz or Hz), but can often be between 26 and upwards of 70 Hz.
Research has shown gamma waves are continuously present during low voltage fast neocortical activity (LVFA), which occurs during the process of awakening and during active rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. This is a good time to be visualising!
During moments when bursts of precognition or high-level information processing occur, your brainwaves reach the Gamma state. As such, if you’re interested in exploring these levels, a few dollars on some MP3 downloads is probably a safe investment!
Hope this helps

Most of these comments talk as if they know how the internal combustion engine runs and what the idle should be set at to perform at peak efficiency.
So what happens when the brain isn’t using it’s full potential and ends up behind bars or destroys it’s ability to function properly because of using drugs, street or prescription or booze.
Find out more about yourself at TAROTNAMES and then see if you are better equipped to travel deeper into one’s self. Then allow yourself to vibrate at the proper frequency.
“So what happens when the brain isn’t using it’s full potential and ends up behind bars or destroys its ability to properly function because of drugs.….”
Bruce, one of two things happens in this situation.… either number one : the recovery process begins,- where the individual figures out that they have to find new ways to function, such as brainwave entrainment for heightened ability to cope effectively. Scientific research suggests it to be very effective, with out the need for drugs and other mind altering substitutes that induce some type of abnormal or degenerative chemical alteration in the brain. An integral part of the recovery process is meditation– which can be enhanced and accelerated with the products mentioned here.
or the other option number two is : jails institutions and death.
The recovery process for anyone who is not interested in jails and institutions and death. As far as I know they do not allow brain entrainment in the prison systems.
Using brainwave entrainment is the most empirically researched avenue we now have.
Wicca and Tarot and other such forms of religious, are great avenues to self development, and have been around for centuries they are often a great adjunct to spiritual development for those who are moved by spirit in a particular direction. Just as Buddhism, Judaism, and Christianity to name a few.
The world religions have made a significant contribution to the spiritual evolution of the human race. All have the ideal at there core teachings to bring about various forms of seeking to commune with higher levels of consciousness. However, brainwave technology breaks all those cultural barriers that religion presents in uniting us with the oneness of the human experience. We have now discovered a way to delve deeper into one’s self awareness that is beyond any of the limitations or hold backs that religions have always presented us with. It offers a state of INSTANT Unity, for the beginner, advanced, and awakened seekers, which has always been the major lack in other types of religious healing processes. This is an highly evolved meditation processes at its finest without the limitations presented by the cultural connotations of religion. And it is available with the click of a button. This saves time in learning how to immediately vibrate at a proper frequency of Unity.
Hope this helps to clear up any of confusion.
“Scientific research suggests” this is leading to a statement of Theoretical assumption,
where;
Maureen Killoran’s, Tarotname, brain wave vibration suggests that, “Service is your duty, either as a doctor, teacher, or such where compassion is more likely to be your middle name.“
and
Lee Benson’s Tarotname brain wave vibration suggests that; “Always expanding your horizons, the encounters you meet on the way leads to bold new enterprises. Considered the brave, never boring and always the protector, these are the trekkers of our past.”
This is how these two name vibrations suggest a similiar influence. The difference in both name suggest, different personalities that are driven to a common bond through similiar devotions, whether be it a religious belief or Faith. Meaning that we are all alike but vibrate for different reasons. Like.
My desire to cross a river may be different than yours or Lee’s but the motive is to deliver insight when we all arrive on the other side of the river.
Tarotnames is also that instant and is still keeping the faith and using the advanced tech of computer influences.
Great post, love the Brain Evolution System. I’ve been using it since the release and it rocks!
So what really bothers me is that I have a large portuion of my brain that I will probably never use…Whats up with that? I know the key to true happiness is knowledge and understanding along with wisdom of the old age…still trying to tap into it though!
I believe this will increase / deepen state of our brain by flooding entire brain with these different brain waves. I am trying to understand the end result of this..? Is there anyone who can tell what significant affects this has?
Has anyone looked into something call Brain State Technologies? This looks interesting as well, maybe more technologically advanced??
all this information is fascinating but it is difficult to see how you can use it if you cant check if your subconsious thoughts are are in alignment or not. This ia why I recommend using The Balance Procedure to check your thoughts .
every thing is what we believe and accept .to reach a higher realms of awareness we must use whatever resource work for us.love and have fun in your journy.
how can access the other 90% of my brain’s cappacity, capabilities?
Binaural beat presents a challenge for those who have a hearing impairment, possible total loss of hearing in one ear. Any options for them?
It’s all interesting listening to everyones viewpoints, analogies etc of connecting with our different brainwaves, so with the 15 min extract — what is it actually doing when we listen to it? Like, for me it relaxes me quite quickly and almost sent me into a dreamy sleep — my mind went into designer mode on my house! Then when it finished I opened my eyes and realised my chin had almost dropped to my chest and I’d tuned out to where I was (at my desk). And my house was still the same — bumma! I’m interested in what can be achieved with listening to the different brainwaves and how it all works. Can anyone recommend further reading on this topic. Cheers from sunny Brisbane, Australia
A good analogy would be to relate each brainwave state to a sting on a violin.
as a violinist, as far as I know violin have no “stings”..
just a quick editing note..as ’twere.
Thanks fot the info
Great little post there and basic info everyone should know but most don’t. It is time for the average person to know more about brain function and I hold that especially true for those with a lot of stress in their lives.
I share a lot of brain balancing videos and meditations on my blogs because I think they help people get a quick break for relaxing and focusing on their brains, chakras, and just taking a few minutes to go within.
We must each take responsibility for our peace of mind and body~mind~spirit connection to health. That means knowing what makes us tick and using natural methods with intelligence.
Read Autobiography of a Yogi for inspiration to meditate! I had a mind machine for a few years that really helped me understand the different brainwaves and how they feel.
autobiography of a yogi.….rocks!
I have used a cd called awakened mind that worked extremely well for me. these cd’s will work way better for you if you use good quality head phones. Look up Dr. Jeffrey Thompson
Hi Leila,
Gamma brain waves are also associated with compassion — I suppose that is why they show up when zen monks meditate. In my opionion they are essential when you are looking for spiritual and personal development. Dr. Jeffrey Thompson has produced 2 Gamma brain wave CDs which are available at an extremely reasonalbe price (e.g. amazon).
All I would like to say is that I believe the vibration created by your name influences who you are and changing ones name like a criminal would do to escape the law would also change that persons creative approach. A name change could influence a bank robber to maybe become a banker. Even the religious practice of having a priest or sister convert into their new role were asked to take on a different name other than the name they were given at birth. Actors assume a different name to become more like the character and good actors can get away by fooling everyone.
Like a violin sounds different from a guitar yet both have strings, your character vibrates to your name the same way. Like a rose by any other name does smell different and is just as sweet.
