You wake up in the morning and you just don't feel like doing anything. Or worse yet, you dread going into work.

Well, fear not. I stumbled upon this article that'll give you the tips and tricks that'll get you through any day. Even if you woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

There's some pretty neat stuff here, but I'd love to hear what you have to say about doing work when you don't feel like it.

Drop a comment below and give us your secret tips.

How To Remain Productive When You Feel Like Giving Up

From Entrepreneurs-Journey.com

Like most people, some mornings I wake up and feel less than enthusiastic about working. Sometimes, this feeling doesn’t stem from laziness or apathy, it’s a stronger power, a sense of futility and helplessness.

I know a lot of people look to my story of success as a source of inspiration and that is one of the greatest benefits I enjoy as a blogger, but – and I’m not afraid to admit it – I don’t always feel energized to pursue business and sometimes in my darkest moments, I even consider throwing in the towel.

This feeling is not so common for me now as I have lifestyle flexibility, a more stable income and a better mindset about work, but earlier on, it definitely was a problem. I want to explain how I overcome these moments (and still do the same thing now on occasion) to stay on track and how you can even have a productive day when you are not really feeling the mojo on the inside.

I expect you have felt similar feelings of despair or a lack of motivation at different stages of your business development, especially if you are yet to establish an income stream online that is sufficient for you to live off, or if you are right at the beginning and you have not seen one cent of return for the work you have put in.

Inspired or Dejected

Depending on your world view and personality style, when you hear of the success of others you may either feel inspired or dejected, and while it’s obviously more fruitful to look at other people achieving what you desire as motivation, as a fallible human, jealousy, depression and anger may be your initial responses.

Your mind is your greatest asset for success in business, but it can be just as strong a force of hindrance, sabotaging your efforts, destroying your work ethic and leaving you with no option but to return to the soul destroying job you promised yourself that you would never go back to.

How To Work When You Don’t Feel Like It

One of the characteristics I believe is at the heart of my success and the success of most entrepreneurs, is an ability to keep working in the face of failure and an ability to force yourself to be productive when you don’t feel like it.

So how well do you know your brain? Even though we rely on our brains for EVERYTHING, 90% (if not more) of people are oblivious to what's going up in their noggin'.

But here's the best part. Your brain is hardwired to help you in every endeavor you choose. All you need to do is "activate" it.

For a long time now, people have known about the brain's ability to operate at different wavelengths and frequencies. But not everyone knows what each form of brainwave does. So here's a crash course on the key brainwaves and how they can help you speed up your personal growth, feel more relaxed, and live a happier life.

Editor's Note: Lee Benson is a self-development leader, currently living in Paris, France. He is the creator of ground-breaking, brain-strengthening products, such as Brain Bullet, and the founder of the original Elite Inner Circle.

During 2005, Lee Benson worked with brainwave pioneer Michael Kelley, to help develop the Brain Evolution System - a six-level "brainwave entrainment" program designed to strengthen the mind.

Lee is currently travelling the globe, working to spread the word regarding the BrainEv technology - and the powerful results it can bring.

If you're interested in activating your brainwaves for higher relaxation and creativity, click here for a 15-minute audio sample >>

I've also got a FREE gift for you. It's a 15-minute audio that uses the latest in sound technology. It's only 15 minutes but I can assure you that it'll give you a clearer state of mind and bring you into deeper levels of relaxation.

...

How Your Brain Works

The electrical activity emanating from the brain creates frequencies called brainwaves.

Brainwave frequencies are measured in Hertz (Hz), meaning cycles per second. The more cycles per second, the greater the Hertz value.

There are four categories of brainwaves ranging from the most activity to the least activity. These are: BETA, ALPHA, THETA and DELTA.

Each image below depicts a one second snapshot of human brainwave activity, as detected by an electroencephalogram (EEG). As you'll notice, greater values indicate more brainwave activity within the one second time-frame.

Beta Brainwaves

BETA BRAINWAVES are characteristic of an engaged mind, which is highly alert and well focused.

Beta activity is quick-connect, fast activity and tends to dominate the normal waking state of consciousness when-attention is directed towards the outside world.

Typically detected in the frontal lobes (where decisions are managed), Beta is usually seen on both sides of the brain in geometric distribution. It may be absent or reduced in areas of brain damage. It is generally regarded as a normal rhythm and tends to be the dominant rhythm in those who are alert, anxious or have their eyes open.

Beta brainwaves are engaged when the brain is aroused or processing activities, such as:

involved conversations with others that command your full attention

complex problem solving and assessment of situations

public speaking, lectures or teaching information

Alpha Brainwaves

ALPHA BRAINWAVES are slower than beta and can represent a relaxed awareness in the mind.

This rhythm is seen when the brain sets itself to rest or reflect. Alpha rates are increased by closing the eyes and relaxing, yet are offset by opening one's eyes or any concentrated effort.

Alpha is usually best detected in the frontal regions of the head, on each side of the brain. Alpha is the major rhythm seen in normal relaxed adults and is typically regarded as the common relaxation mode beyond the age of 13.

Alpha brainwaves move towards deep relaxation, imagination and intuitive thinking, as they accompany:

a relaxed mind after complex thinking into a mode of relaxation

meditation and setting the mind's attention to itself, away from outside distractions

recovery from stressful thoughts and emotional despair

Theta Brainwaves

THETA BRAINWAVES can indicate drowsiness, daydreaming, the first stage of sleep or 'indirect' imagination/thinking.

Theta activity is not often seen in awake adults (unless engaged in a meditative practice), but is perfectly normal in alert children up to 13 years and in most sleep.

A Theta state can be regarded as a gateway to hypnagogic states that lay between being awake and falling asleep. Often Theta entrainment can promote vivid flashes of mental imagery as one becomes receptive to brain/mind information beyond one’s typical conscious awareness. Theta has also been identified as a part of learning, memory and reductions in stress.

Theta brainwaves are often related to:

accessing subconscious information that eludes the conscious mind

hynagogic states like 'daydreaming'

reductions in body rhythms, such as: heart rate and breathing

Delta Brainwaves

DELTA BRAINWAVES can reveal deep sleep or slow-wave 'background' thinking.

Much like bass sound, Delta tends to be the highest in amplitude and the slowest waves. Delta is often associated with deep sleep. Certain frequencies, in the delta range, have been shown to trigger the body's healing and growth mechanisms.

Interestingly, Delta is the dominant rhythm in infants up to one year, as well as stages 3 and 4 of dreamless sleep.

Delta brainwaves are often related to and indicate:

the lowest brain frequencies, possibly indicating subconscious thoughts and information

deep and refreshing sleep that allows the body and brain to rest and repair.

extremely deep meditation and hyper-relaxed mind states

...

It is important to note that the brain does not operate on one frequency range at any given time.

All four rates occur at once, yet at varying amplitudes. A good analogy would be to relate each brainwave state to a sting on a violin. All four strings make notes, yet one or more strings can dominate the overall sound at a greater volume.

If you're interested in trying out a FREE 15-minute audio sample, click here >>

It sounds a little too easy, but the technology behind the audio isn't. After listening to this audio, you'll feel fresher and more relaxed.

There are many in America right now that are losing their homes.

My children and I lost our home shortly after my divorce. Losing your home, a loved one, a business, a job, or any other significant thing or person in our lives brings forth vast and unsettling emotions.

Our sense of security, identity, and safety is threatened.

We wonder if we will survive. We wonder how we will survive. We feel pain, anger and a sense of tremendous loss.

At one time or another we will all experience this in our journey through life.

Sometimes we merely survive the upset.

Sometimes we are left with unresolved anger and a lingering or lifelong feeling of unjustness and unfairness.

Editor's Note: Sasha Xarrian is the author of the Outrageous Mastery® trilogy, which has been read in over 90 countries.

It's the true story of a woman who lost everything; her extended Mormon family, husband, home, money, friends, and the set of beliefs she had followed since birth.

But despite all that, she has created a life of wonder and vision, healed her son from a lifelong illness, developed a system for instantaneous communication with God/Higher Power, created vast amounts of money in very short periods of time, and increased the love in her life by 1000%.

Her key to all this? Self-confidence.

Check out Sasha's FREE special report on using your self-confidence to get what you want out of life >>

Sometimes we experience a greater sense of ourselves and our abilities. We realize that we can not only survive but that we have intelligence, instincts, and strengths beyond what we previously believed. Sometimes we experience a peace that is more profound than we ever imagined. Sometimes our self-confidence expands. Many times we learn the power of letting go. And many times we learn that we are not the things we own or we are not the other half of another person.

What is life about?

Why do these “calamities” befall us?

Why are we here?

I believe that we are here to learn who we really are. I believe that we are here to grow in our power, love, intelligence and sense of self. I believe we are here to demonstrate to ourselves that we can survive and that after and through survival we rise to higher levels of spiritual and internal power. When I use the word power, I mean the ability, capacity and action of generating – of creating – this divine power within that many times has lain dormant waiting to be awakened.

Are you experiencing a wakeup call right now?

Are you being challenged beyond reason?

Are you unsure of your ability to survive or cope?

Know that you are more than this experience.

Know that you are divine.

Know that, on some level, you may even have created this event for your own growth or wakeup call.

Know that this may be a turning point in your life.

Know that you may discover a part of yourself that you never knew existed.

Know that – in time – you may look back on this experience and call it the best

thing that could have happened to you.

Know that it is not “bad” and neither are you.

Know that you are a creator.

Know that life is with you – whether you feel it now or not.

Know that you have the ability to look at what occurred or is occurring and figure out what you could have done differently to have prevented this. Know that it really is okay that you didn’t prevent it. Learn from this experience.

Some of you have read in Outrageous Mastery® how I figured out how to get a home for my children and myself. It was a wreck and it made me angry but once my children and I accepted it as a challenge – we rose to the occasion.

The pride that we all felt a year later went soul-deep. A neighbor just shook her head and said, “You are superwoman!”

And I felt like superwoman.

Know that everything passes.

Know that life goes on.

Know that you are more than this experience.

Know there is a reason for it.

Know it may turn into a gift.

Know that you are incredibly special.

Know that you are loved.

Know that it doesn’t mean you are a failure.

Know that it doesn’t mean anything negative about you.

It is a life experience. That is all.

And it is an opportunity to be stretched, to go beyond your comfort zone, to find
out how tough you really are. It is your challenge.

Rise to the occasion and show yourself who you are.

Look for and find the opportunity that is awaiting you. It is there.

Know you are more important and worth more than what is happening.

Know, as time passes, everything will be fine.

Know that you are the one that can make it fine.

With Love and Mastery,

Sasha Xarrian

I'm sure most of us have been through a similar scenario. Maybe you've set a new year's resolution for yourself or to accomplish a new goal you needed to create a new habit. Yet, try as we might, we often fall prey to laziness, procrastination, negative self-talk, or disorganization.

You get the idea.

But with a little help (and a few tips and tricks), ingraining new good behavior can become just as easy. Check out this article below from ZenHabits on 29 ways to create a new GOOD habit.

The Habit Change Cheatsheet: 29 Ways to Successfully Ingrain a Behavior

From ZenHabits.net

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. - Aristotle

Our daily lives are often a series of habits played out through the day, a trammeled existence fettered by the slow accretion of our previous actions.

But habits can be changed, as difficult as that may seem sometimes.

I’m a living example: in tiny, almost infinitesimal steps, I’ve changed a laundry list of habits. Quit smoking, stopped impulse spending, got out of debt, began running and waking early and eating healthier and becoming frugal and simplifying my life and becoming organized and focused and productive, ran three marathons and a couple of triathlons, started a few successful blogs, eliminated my debt … you get the picture.

It’s possible.

And while I’ve written about habit change many times over the course of the life of Zen Habits, today I thought I’d put the best tips all together in one cheatsheet, for those new to the blog and for those who could use the reminders.

Keep it simple
Habit change is not that complicated. While the tips below will seem overwhelming, there’s really only a few things you need to know. Everything else is just helping these to become reality.

The simple steps of habit change:

1. Write down your plan.

2. Identify your triggers and replacement habits.

3. Focus on doing the replacement habits every single time the triggers happen, for about 30 days.

That’s it. We’ll talk more about each of these steps, and much more, in the cheatsheet below.

The Habit Change Cheatsheet
The following is a compilation of tips to help you change a habit. Don’t be overwhelmed — always remember the simple steps above. The rest are different ways to help you become more successful in your habit change.

1. Do just one habit at a time. Extremely important. Habit change is difficult, even with just one habit. If you do more than one habit at a time, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Keep it simple, allow yourself to focus, and give yourself the best chance for success. Btw, this is why New Year’s resolutions often fail — people try to tackle more than one change at a time.

2. Start small. The smaller the better, because habit change is difficult, and trying to take on too much is a recipe for disaster. Want to exercise? Start with just 5-10 minutes. Want to wake up earlier? Try just 10 minutes earlier for now. Or consider half habits.

3. Do a 30-day Challenge. In my experience, it takes about 30 days to change a habit, if you’re focused and consistent. This is a round number and will vary from person to person and habit to habit. Often you’ll read a magical “21 days” to change a habit, but this is a myth with no evidence. Seriously — try to find the evidence from a scientific study for this. A more recent study shows that 66 days is a better number (read more). But 30 days is a good number to get you started. Your challenge: stick with a habit every day for 30 days, and post your daily progress updates to a forum.

But it doesn't end there. He's about to do something that 99% of all people would call extraordinary and highly dangerous: a polar race to the North Pole. He does some pretty crazy things (one of them involves a meat freezer and a rather interesting story about a shovel) just to complete his goal.

Check out the first part of this mini-movie on the story of Raymond Aaron and how one man could accomplish so much, jump all these hurdles, and bring so much positive change to the world.

Whether it's a polar race, a new business venture, a drastic life change, our lives are filled with adventure. But after watching this video, I want to know what you think:

Do you think what Raymond is doing is inspirational or just plain risky?

P.S. Stay tuned for part 2 of the movie to find out what happened to Raymond Aaron and this icy adventure.

If you haven't heard the news, Jay-Z was recently interviewed by Oprah. While I didn't watch the whole interview, one thing that struck me was his take on life and in particular the books that had influenced him.

Love him or hate him, Jay-Z is a genius. He hasn't forgotten his roots, is an entrepreneurial whiz, is a champion giver to charities, and let's not forget his incredible ability to make money (his net worth is estimated to be at $150 million).

And if you give his list of books a look, you'll realize this millionaire rapper is a lot deeper than he appears.

If you're wondering, here is his list of books. Doubtless there are more that have influenced him but these are the top 6:

The Seat of the Soul by Gary Zukav
The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield
Homer's The Odyssey
Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell
Purple Cow by Seth Godin
Nigger by Dick Gregory

Pretty impressive in terms of personal growth.

Of The Seat of the Soul, Jay-Z had this to say, "There are two books that I absolutely live my life by. This is one of them. Growing up, I was always curious about religion. This book made the most sense to me; it's about the way you live your life. I believe in karma and doing the right thing even if it may not advance you as far as you want. If every single person felt the same way about karma and intention, then the world gets fixed tomorrow. But temptation gets in the way. Zukav is right: It may take lifetimes to learn."

And what really struck me was what he had to say about The Celestine Prophecy. "This is the other book I live by. It's fiction—a guy travels to find a secret book that has a series of principles. The story is a metaphor for life: I could go left or right, I could be stuck, or I could keep advancing. Some people are happy where they are. I tried to hire a guy once, and I said, "Don't you have ambition to be bigger?" And he said, "No, I'm good." I had to respect that, but for me that was the wrong relationship."

If you're looking for a good book to read, this is definitely a great list to start off with.

I mean, it's against everything we've been taught, right? That success is always earned. But if you believe in that 100%, where does that leave failure? It also means that failure is always earned. It's your fault if you fail. Entirely.

And this is why in societies such as ours and most of the world's, people take work too seriously and too personally. It creates a certain pain that honestly, is pretty damaging.

In this awesome speech by Alain de Botton, he talks about moving beyond job snobbery, letting the focus off our me-centered lives for a little bit, and ease up so that we can all enjoy our work and careers. As the saying goes, "The world doesn't revolve around you."

A few months ago we had an amazing article (actually one of our top rated articles) by Professor Srikumar Rao. It was called Happiness Is Your Birthright, You Have To Reach Out And Claim It!

And how right he was! The response to Professor Rao's article and Personal Mastery course taught at some of the best business schools in the world including Columbia, Haas, The University of California at Berkeley and London Business School.

But how did a business school lecturer become a personal development guru with a massive following ? And what about him caught the attention of CNN, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Time Magazine?

Dr. Srikumar Rao is the founder of the course, Creativity and Personal Mastery, the only business school course that is so popular among students that it has a long wait list and an alumni association.

He is also the author of the international bestseller Are You Ready to Succeed: Unconventional Strategies for Achieving Personal Mastery in Business and Life.

I'll be conducting two interviews with Srikumar Rao.

And it won't be just me interviewing him. In fact, you're going to help me.

What's your most burning question for Srikumar Rao?

If you've been following them. This should be easy. If you're new to his work. Check out his website AreYouReadyToSucceed.com

Also, Dr. Rao gave an awesome talk to Google's headquarters last year. He covered of course the connection between your self-awareness and happiness as well as work life success:

Click here to view the embedded video.

Don't worry, I'll keep you posted on when the interview will be released.

But before then, don't forget to ask Dr. Rao you're #1 question on happiness and the workplace.

The Challenge For You:

How happy you are in your work?

How do you feel about your career and life path?

Do you feel that you are following your passion and purpose?

How can ideas from the personal development field be brought into the workplace?

Does meditation, gratitude, positive thinking, visualization, intuition etc have a place in work life?

After you've posed those 5 questions to yourself, I want you to drop a comment and post this final question:

What's the #1 thing you want to see changed in your life when it comes to your passion, purpose and career?
