An Indian Punishment, Prayer to Ganesh, Mental Exercise Or All Of The Above?

by Gabrielle Lim

Super brain yoga. It’s exactly as it sounds.  Yes, there is a specific type of yoga that not only increases your mental capabilities but also can prevent Alzheimer’s and cure learning disabilities.  Whether the proof is indisputable or it’s just wishful thinking, practitioners of super brain yoga swear by its power to heal and re-energize.

Using a combination of breathing exercises, acupressure, and movement, super brain yoga is scientifically proven to increase brain activity.  That being said so does any physical or mental exercise.

This isn’t anything new to East Indian culture, however.  It is both an old Hindu practice and even a punishment for misbehaving children.

Have a look at this short video and judge for yourself.  Are the effects unique to super brain yoga or is a placebo effect taking place?

For those having trouble viewing the video, it can also be viewed here: Super Brain Yoga

Hi All,

Super Brain Yoga is one of most effective techniques of improving brain.

Thanks for this article by Gabrielle Lim to give info with nice video on the same.

In a brief mode let me explain the technique.

Here while standing, basically we need to keep our left hand first on right ear with thumb touching front side and forefinger touching back side of the ear.
Then place right hand on left ear similarly.

Then we need to do the exercise part where we need to sit on the back foot or normal sit-up exercise, where while sitting, we need to inhale deeply with stomach/abdomen and while getting up, we need to exhale slowly. The process of inhalation /exhalation should be covered within the time of sitting down/getting up.

So this has to be practiced slowly.

Also make sure the eyes remain straight during the process for maximum benefits.

Inhalation/Exhalation can be done according to one's comfortableness, not causing pain/uneasiness, only we need to realize the inhalation or exhalation properly, that's it.

A count of 14 or 21 per day is more than enough and improvements can be seen in 3 to 4 weeks itself.

In Hinduism, presently some people will do it with right hand placed first on left ear and then left hand. This accounts for benefits of acupuncture, though they do not follow the necessary breathing procedure during the process.
However conventionally in olden days there might be similar process which relates to yoga.

Hence the method which yields maximum benefit is described initially in this post (as in the video too).

Some important precautions to be followed are:

1. Wear loose garments while doing, as there should not be any discomfort while doing the same.
2. Women are not advised to do the same during periods, as contaminated energy residing on lower body may go up. Also for pregnant women, better to consult a physician to know if this can be done and about the restrictions.
3. Best time to do it is in early Morning or evening, better to do when stomach is not full.
4. Make sure you do it slowly as it has great effect on the results.

Thanks,
Sankar.

In this video if you watch and listen carefully, there are 2 versions of breathing-1.Inhaling while squating and exhaling as you stand,2.Exhaling while squating and inhaling as you stand. In yoga postures when the body bends forward we exhale(breathe out) and when the body stretches out we inhale(breathe in)So when we squat holding our ears with opposite hands, (our body bends forward)we exhale and upon standing, our body stretches, therefore we inhale.
This exercise with scientific validation is very beneficial combining wholesome(left and right brain)brain activity. Thanks for sharing this article.

Gravatar image earl says 7 months, 2 weeks ago

I have no idea Margaret since the video is not attached. I have made a request. Let me have a look at the video and then I shall be able to explain it to you.

Hi Margaret:

From your comments I can figure out this one.
When you are squatting holding your ears you will automatically breathe out.

Then breathe in, hold your breath and get up, holding your ears. Natural..............

I have undergone this punishment in school atleast once a week since some of the teachers hated me for no reason. It was my routine.....

this is fun yet very useful exercise..
Im going to do it..
that's for sure..

Gravatar image sikander says 7 months, 2 weeks ago

this is very interresting.
it is kind of similar to the principles in hemi-sync, in the sence that a binaural sound in stereo helps the brain to connect the two hemispheres. just as we are taught in silva that makes geniuses.

i will start practicing this together with hemi-sync and see if i will get greater and greater brain capassity. ^.^

Gravatar image salima says 7 months, 2 weeks ago

I must see & do this

Gravatar image Bahadur Ali says 7 months, 1 week ago

This is a very interesting and useful exercise, are ther any more of such exercises? How would one get to those?

In our school days in India any child who created mischief in a class room, was punished with this exercise, hardly knowing the benifits.

Thank you, hope you will conribute more exercises in this format.

This was something our teachers made only the bad students do as a form of punishment never knew it had anything positive. Being an old time will someone evaluate another poition called the "Murga " position. In here the sti9dent was asked to hold the same side ears but the approach was to be from below the respective legs some what of a croutched position?

Gravatar image harold says 1 month, 1 week ago

A couple of points. If fMRI's show it balances the brains (the two hemispheres, we have two brains. How nice) then it is radically important.
The other comments is that if you refresh the screen the videos doing this should work then or you can get it on youtube.com. You can also download it with realplayer, free at realplayer.com.
